Websky Ltd, authors of Expert Landlord, travel in unusual style to business meetings and shows. The new Bath based software business has acquired a rare Renault Avantime which bears the registration number W33SKY and has been signwritten with Expert Landlord graphics.
It was first displayed on the Expert Landlord stand at the Homebuyer Show. Peter Mackay, Websky’s director, comments “We needed a company car to share between us. We then decided that we would signwrite the chosen vehicle to act as a rolling advert. We didn’t plan to get something as outlandish as the Avantime, although it has turned out be a remarkably good car – fast, smooth, very roomy, quiet and economical” Mike Griffiths (Websky’s director and major shareholder) found the Avantime languishing unloved in a car super market and snapped it up at a bargain price.
The Avantime was produced by Renault throughout 2002. It was sold as coupe (it has just two doors) and is based on the Espace Mark II. The initial price was nearly £30,000. 150 right hand drive examples made it to the UK. Mike has been led to believe that only 90 were sold – the rest remain with the dealers. All are ’52 registrations.
Websky’s Avantime has the smaller two litre light pressure turbo four cylinder engine and returns over 30mpg. Most Avantimes are three litre automatics. Mike comments “I’m not surprised that the Avantime didn’t sell in the UK. At £30,000 everyone wants a prestige German car, not a strange looking, 2 door, 5-seater space ship. However, it is a great second-hand buy – we paid used Mondeo money for something that really stands out and drives very well!” |
